Space

The library has several zones, each with its own expectations about noise and appropriate use. Please choose the area appropriate for the type of work you are engaged in.

The Reading Room: This is the space for individual work, small–group work, relaxation, and quiet conversation. Please note that relaxation does not mean playing video games (see below) or destructive horseplay (i.e., running or throwing things). Conversational noise must be kept at respectful levels: normal speaking voices are okay, but there should be no yelling and no one should be able to hear distinct conversations from across the room. Headphones should be used for listening to schoolwork or music.

Small Group Study Rooms: These rooms are designed for small groups to work collaboratively or individually. Projectors can be used for school-based academic or athletic purposes only. Please no yelling, eating, pounding on the glass, or slamming doors. Lights must remain on in study rooms unless a video is being played. Study rooms 123, 124, and 125 have a five-person limit and rooms 135 and 136 have an eight-person limit.

Additionally:

  • There is no saving study rooms. Rooms can be reserved for a specific project or purpose through Skedda. You will need to sign up for a Skedda account using your Nobles login credentials. Once you have an account you can reserve meeting rooms for 2 hours at a time.
  • During school hours study rooms may not be used to project games or videos that are not for school-related academic/athletic purposes.
  • Furniture should not be moved.
  • The Quiet Study Room: This room is designed for individual, silent study.

Food and Drink

No food is allowed in any part of the library, unless by explicit permission of the library staff. Drinks are allowed, but all trash must be thrown away. Items left at the end of the day will either be placed in the Lost & Found or in the garbage.

Technology

The Putnam Library lends a variety of technology, including laptops, headphones, AV equipment, and more. If you check out an item it is your responsibility to bring it back in a timely fashion and in the same condition in which it was checked out. If you lose the item you will be charged for it. If you would like to charge your cell phone there is a charging station located next to the circulation desk. If you would like to charge your laptop there is a charging station located under the counter outside of the library workroom.

Library Materials

Books, DVDs, and other materials may be checked out by any member of the Nobles community. The standard checkout period is two weeks, but if you need more time you may renew your item at this link or ask a librarian for assistance. If you lose an item you will be charged for it. There is no limit to how many items you may check out.

Printing Policy

Members of the Nobles community may use the library printers and copier for their printing needs. For more about printing click here. Please print double-sided if possible and not in excess. If you are looking for a color printer, please see a librarian.
